With a royal marriage in the news today, I thought Id pass on the findings of a recent study that sheds new light on why all of us — even the rich and famous — tend to choose spouses with similar levels of education. Research suggests that the more education a person has, the higher his or her lifetime earnings.

College-educated adults are more likely to be married than less-educated adults. In addition, men with a higher level of education are more likely to get married in the first place when compared with less-educated men. There also are distinctive patterns in marriage longevity by race and ethnicity.
