Question: Why did Greeks settle in Chicago?

Greek immigrants settled initially in the central city in order to be near their place of work, especially the wholesale Fulton and South Water Streets markets, and to procure produce for their food peddling businesses. Where did Greeks settle in Chicago?

Greektown is situated within the west side of Chicago. However, the current location along Halsted Street dates back to the 1960s. Chicagos original Greek neighborhood was known as “The Delta,” a specific triangular area formed around 3 streets: Halsted, Harrison and Blue Island Streets.
