The world of dating can be confusing enough without all kinds of conflicting messages reaching out to Christian teens today. Yet, Christians are supposed to live to a higher standard. Here are some books that can help teens guide their dating lives with biblical principles, wisdom, and a focus on God. Bringing a fresh approach to dating relationships, Eric and Leslie Ludy tell their story and show how true love can bring satisfying fulfillment and romance to Christian teens that are faced with the cheap, sensual passion promoted by the world around them.

They offer tools to build a God-honoring relationship throughout the book. Continue Reading Below Despite the title, this is not a book telling teens not to date. Instead, Joshua Harris reminds teens about what it's like to have a God perspective when they decide to date.

From going over “Seven Habits of Highly Defective Dating” to , the author provides an outlook on dating as a biblical act rather than short infatuation. His focus is looking at dating as something long-term and lasting rather than just a high school crush or fling. Michael and Amy Smalley use humor, personal, stories, and straight talk to challenge teens to a dating life filled with Godly principles like honor and purity. They use their insights into the way Christian teens think to provide advice that teens can relate to and use in their everyday dating lives.

Continue Reading Below Written by Blaine Bartel, this book doesn’t just focus on how to find the right person to date, but also how teens can be the right person for someone else while avoiding the dangers of dating in today’s world. It also discusses the importance of being friends before dating and the difference between love and lust, which can be a confusing thing in the teen years. Not just a book that tells teens what to do, but instead this is a journal that helps Christian teens sort through their complex relationships with wisdom and support from the authors.

There are exercises to express feelings and develop strength of conviction. Sometimes it helps to write things down or have a safe place to deal with the complex world of dating - a place with no judgement. Continue Reading Below

It’s the kind of relationship my single Christian friends strive for. If you’re in the same boat, you’ll want to put yourself in front of as many Christian singles as possible to meet that special someone — and online dating is the way to do that. While we understand this can be an intimidating venture for some people, that’s what we’re here for. We have four tips that will help make your journey into online dating a smooth one.

1. Choose a Christian Dating or App Site That Aligns Best With Your Demographic The best and most efficient way to find compatible Christian men and women is to join a dating site or app that has members who already have similar values, beliefs, experiences, and lifestyles.

Below is more information about the top Christian websites on our list. Free Christian Dating Site has over 13.5 million active users a month and a membership that costs absolutely nothing, making it one of the most popular free Christian dating sites on the web.

From the signup to the profile creation to the search and the communication, there are no hidden fees or other barriers on Match. Christian Dating App Launched in 2007, was one of the first online dating apps ever. Today, thanks to their integration with Facebook and Google+, they’ve made a name for themselves among innovative dating apps — as well as Christian dating apps because of their ever-increasing numbers in this demographic.

Black Christian Dating Site With more than 1.4 million visitors every month and counting, is a popular online destination for Christian and black singles alike. Whether you’re looking for a casual date or a serious relationship, the browsing features on BlackPeopleMeet can help you narrow down the options and pinpoint your ideal match.

Gay Christian Dating Site We’ve included again on this list because this site really is our favorite overall. Besides having the most impressive numbers, Match is also very welcoming of any type of dater, especially Christian gay singles.

2. Make Use of Free Trial Periods If you want to go through all the steps of online dating without having to pay anything upfront, you’ll want to make use of a free trial or a free membership option — which is offered by all of the Christian dating websites above.

This is where you can do things like register, fill out your information, view profiles, and communicate with matches. 3. Use Services With Helpful Features, Like Christian Chat Rooms Providing members with useful features — our favorite being Christian chat rooms — is one of the ways we determine what’s a good Christian online dating site.

Chat rooms allow you to instantly talk with someone who catches your eye and make the conversation flow more easily. And guess what? You’ll find fun chat rooms on all of our top picks.

4. Read Christian Dating Reviews & Advice — From Making a Profile to Meeting Christian Singles Besides checking out Christian dating sites reviews, like ours, we also suggest looking at other types of content before jumping into the process. All of our recommendations have blogs with expert Christian dating advice and tips for succeeding online, such as how to pick the right pictures for your profile and ways to filter search results to match your needs.

It’s also worth mentioning that we will only suggest online Christian dating sites that we would use ourselves and trust 100%. The ones on this list have been around for a long time, some over 20 years, and have stellar reputations, unbeatable success rates, and dedicated teams. My friend has a great relationship with her husband because they get to bond over their shared love of religion and worship. If you’re a single Christian and that’s the kind of relationship you desire, too, the Christian dating services above will help you reach that goal in no time.

I’ve read many of them. Some of them I would NEVER recommend through experience. (like Kissed Dating Goodbye) Others are nice and flowery but not very practical.

( Her Hand in Marriage, Quest for Love, Passion and Purity, When God Writes Your Love Story) But this one is so practical. It’s not just a bunch of theories and cute stories. Even if you’re not a Christian, I would recommend this book. The principles behind it apply to everyone.

I got mine from the library. by Dr. Henry Cloud Pretty much any of his books are excellent. I would also strongly recommend “Boundaries in Dating” by Cloud and Townsend. Along with Chapman’s “The Five Love Languages” it’s one of the best I’ve seen. I wish more young people interested in pursuing relationships would read those books. It would be an excellent opportunity to share your underlined and annotated copy with a significant other.

The problem I see with books like “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” is they tend to operate on a straw-man argument. All Harris does is define the term ‘dating’ with a very narrow scope, attack the principle, and then presents the broader broader concept of dating by assigning it a new (or rather, old) label. • what do you mean by “straw man?” The Kissed Dating Goodbye series was more for men, and It left me wondering what my role was. Just wait around?

Hope the Fed Ex guy was a Christian? And then I had a guy friend try to “court” me (he too read the book) but it just seemed like we would be skipping a whole step in the process. From friends to already contemplating marriage just seems like a really big, scary jump.

So I froze in my tracks. I couldn’t move forward. It just seemed so unnatural. It just seemed like the guy was making me choose– I want to be your friend or I want you to consider marrying me. Now I realize that finding a guy who wants to get married isn’t the issue. Most people do eventually want to marry. Courtship created a very pressure-filled environment and didn’t allow me to feel like a relationship could progress naturally. I don’t like getting to know men in a pressure-filled environment.

Oh, I do have another friend who recommends Boundaries in Dating. I need to check that out. I do like The Five Love Languages. I’m glad to know some guys, like yourself, do read these kinds of books! You set a good example for others to follow! • By “straw man” I mean the argument technique where the stance of the opponent is misrepresented and then that false, easier to refute, image is easily attacked.

The bits of IKDG that I’m familiar with (I have to admit I never did read the whole thing) seemed like it was arguing against a caricature of ‘dating’ when in reality that term can entail a very wide variety of relationship types and mean different things to different people. To Harris’ credit, I would agree with a small part of his premise, which is something I try to tell my students quite often.

If you can say that the person you are with is definitely not someone you would consider a future long-term partnership with, then why are you pursuing the relationship? Don’t let being bored or lonely cause you to put effort into what you already know to be a dead end. It’s not fair to either party. • your students? Are you a teacher? yeah, I agree with that premise as well. But I also think that if sex isn’t in the picture and both parties agree to abstain until marriage, the relationship will end sooner or later if one of the parties knows there isn’t long-term potential.

Basically if sex isn’t in the picture, that book is basically irrelevant. This is just a theory though:) • Hi! I found your blog while doing a google blog search on this book (“how to get a date worth keeping”). I’ve not read this book yet. I’ve read quite a few other christian dating books such as “I kissed dating goodbye”, “when God writes your love story”, “boy meets girl” etc. Like you, I got the idea that my role (I’m a girl) is just to wait around and God will bring him into my life when I’m ready.

As I’m 26 years old and have never been in a relationship, I really hope that I can play a more active role in this area of my life. I’ve also wondered whether the reason I’m still single is because I’m not spiritually matured enough. That’s the message I’ve been getting from such books. I’ve been reading reviews of this book and it sounds exactly like what I’m looking for.

As a reviewer ( Nicodemus Chan ) on Amazon.com puts it -“God may provide the food for the bird but the bird must still go and look for the worms. God does his part, we must do ours”. Can’t wait to read this book! Oh btw, I’m so glad to have found your blog. I’ve read some of your articles and will definitely come back for more! Congrats on getting married!! 🙂 • Thank you YL! I read all the Christian dating books you mentioned and “how to get a date worth keeping” is by far the best of them!

It is hard playing the “lady in waiting.” Just make sure you are “in circulation” as my mother calls it. So that the man who’s looking for a girl like you can find you! • Hi Datingadvicefromagirl, Interesting Post, If you have been engaged in any form of Christian dating, whether on the Internet or off the Internet, you will truly be interested in this article and the answers it provides to a very pertinent question being asked by most young people.
